USC football: Kennard to start if Morgan can’t

November 11th, 2009, 7:18 pm · Post a Comment · posted by Michael Lev, staff writer

Quick hitters from USC’s Wednesday practice:

** Strong-side linebacker Michael Morgan has a chip in his right wrist and is trying to play with a cast. If Morgan can’t go or is limited, freshman Devon Kennard will shift from defensive end to take that spot. Freshman Jarvis Jones had been the No. 2 SLB, but he’s out because of a sprained neck.

** Tight end Anthony McCoy (ankle) and defensive end Everson Griffen (toe) did limited work and remain on track to play barring any setbacks.

** Tight end Blake Ayles tweaked his right ankle and knee when a player rolled into him. He left practice early to go to class.

** Receiver Brandon Carswell returned to practice after missing the past two days and the Arizona State game because of turf toe.

** Safety Will Harris suffered a shoulder stinger but said he would be fine.

** Receiver Damian Williams (ankle) remained out.

** Coach Pete Carroll said the team is spending twice as much time as usual on third downs this week after converting just 6 of 27 the past two games.
