An Oregon Ducks uniform upgrade?

June 24th, 2009, 12:17 pm · 18 Comments · posted by Michael Lev, staff writer

Considering that a certain blogger deemed Oregon’s most recent uniforms the worst in the history of sports — although previous versions rival them in hideousness — Nike couldn’t help but improve them.

And it actually happened. Nike’s newly unveiled Oregon unis, as depicted below (via The Register-Guard), aren’t that bad. “Steel,” as they’re calling that new silver/gray tone, is a palatable color. And the wings on the shoulders make sense (wings … Ducks … get it?). Now, if only they’d get rid of the yellow …

They look sweet. Maybe a little better without the wings but hey, the players are the ones who chose that.

  • Ray says:

Get rid of the “yellow”! Come on, the school colors are Green and Yellow!

I like the new unis and I really like the fact that the recruits, media and everyone mentions them and LOVES them…well not all of them! lol

    GO DUCKS!!

  • preston says:

The new Uni’s are sweet, the carbon fiber helmet is sick! The addition of “Steel” is a good look i think! People that bag on the ducks for their uniforms are just jealous, plain and simple!!! Ide say its one of the best recruiting tools in all of CFB!!

  • Matt says:

Yeah, get rid of the yellow. Just like Florida should get rid of their orange, Notre Dame their green, UCLA their powder blue and Oregon State their orange.

Some colors, as hideous as they may be to the outsider, are the most endearing colors to the fans because that color is theirs. Hate all you want, despite not a enough yellow, the new unis are a major upgrade.

  • McLovin says:

I think those are feathers, not wings.

  • Sean says:

I like the new look, think it’s the best ones yet!

  • PortlandTrojan says:

I’m a little concerned about those gray pants. Once the butt crack and groin start sweating during a game, that moisture is going to show immediately. Light gray doesn’t exactly hide sweat.

  • Geoff says:

I think they look pretty awesome, especially the white jersey - green pants combo. I like the ’steel’ (not grey, haha), these days I don’t think the whole school colors tradition has to be followed to a ‘T’.

The green - green for home games will be awesome!

  • LA DUCK says:

They don’t hold moisture. Therefore no sweat marks. At least thats what Nike claims. 25% lighter too.

  • jay says:

ok… people keep tellin the ducks to “get rid of the yellow”… ok tell SC to get rid of the red, its a school color, its not like they threw it in the mix just to be cool. so come on

  • Michael Lev, staff writer says:

Obviously I’m not suggesting that they literally get rid of the yellow. I’d just limit it to stripes and trim. I’m still not a fan of the yellow jersey depicted at the far left of the photo above. But all in all, as I mentioned, it’s a sartorial step in the right direction.

    Oregon’s Colors Green and Yellow.
So, we need a solid green uni, a solid yellow uni, the black unis and the all white unis from last year are awewome, what is this new gray and white, that is retarded. Green, Yellow, White, and Black for when we want to make a statement that we are going to smear a team into the ground…black is always badass!

    PortlandTrojan,

Thanks for your comment. I’ve got to hand it to you. Never, not even in a million years, would I have thought about “butt crack and groin sweat” in a conversation about football uniforms. Nice job thinking outside the box. By the way, how does cardinal and gold do at masking the sweat?

  • PortlandTrojan says:

    liberalduck:

I’m happy to help guide the conversation in new directions. Re: Cardinal and Gold - Never noticed any issues with the “gold,” but the team is usually sporting some hard core pit stains on the Cardinal by the second quarter. These are the details one notices when watching the recorded Rose Bowl, Notre Dame and UCLA games for the 10th time. I always keep some games on the DVR to get through the long offseason.

  • If anybody, but rich Nike had ever tried to sell that to the UO, especially the predominantly black (Oakland Raiders) unis they’d been laughed out of the Cas Center.
The inmates are running the asylum now. Green and yellow are great colors and yet Nike unveiled five new uniforms with none of them prominently displaying those colors (only a a touch of yellow in the green ones.
Gray and black is ridiculous, They are not “neutral colors”. Ask Oregon State, Iowa etc and Wash. St has gray as one of their colors.
The uniforms (except) for the feathers look great, they just need to be sold to different teams, not the green and yellow Ducks. If you want black then change the name from Ducks to the Black Knights!

  • KRM says:

Mother ducker. A look only a quacker could love.

  • Coastal Duck says:

I am thankful they got rid of the ghastly, ghostly, yellowish, greenish gloppy, goop of a unie - that was a ‘bad news bears’ combo from the get-go.

I’ll give the new set a “9″ - I thought they could have used a dark green trim around the numbers on the white jerseys. An all-lightning yellow pants with a dark green leg stripe or swoosh might have been good, as well.

Overall, a significant upgrade when you throw in the nano-light material they are using. One and 3/4 thumbs up. :)
