USC (fantasy) football: Mike Williams, Dwayne Jarrett …

kobe20518Kobe Bryant?

In Pete Carroll’s dream world, yeah.

So said the USC coach in a recent “Twitterview” with Lakers.com. (Twitter might be the best way to reach PC these days. Feel free to try it.)

They discussed a variety of mostly L.A.-related topics, including a gridiron role for Kobe.

Here’s that segment of the exchange:

Lakers.com: Which current Laker do you think could help your program the most on the field?

Carroll: Kobe – no-brainer. … He’s a great competitor. … If he isn’t a go-to guy, then I don’t know who is.

Lakers.com: What side of the ball do you line No. 24 up at, though?

Carroll: We’re throwing the ball to him. … He’d play split end – like Mike Williams or (Dwayne) Jarrett. He’d be the big WR. Good for 80 balls a year.

Lakers.com: How about 81? … No. 24 claims he could line up at WR for the Eagles right now.

Carroll: I’d rather see him line up at the Coliseum than Lincoln Financial. … We got 93k. … He has four years of eligibility left anyway. … They made a big deal about Michael (Jordan) playing baseball. … Just think how huge it would be if Kobe played for the Trojans.

NO he cannot! The only Lakers that has a chance at football is Fish.

  • darkdiggler says:

i disagree. kobe is probably, behind tiger woods, one of the hardest working athletes in organized pro sports. 6′7″ (or maybe a tall 6′6″) just under 200 does seem like a good SE. i think D fish is not fast enough or quite strong enough to be even D1 FB, but he def is a bit chunky

What’s funny about this article is, LeBron James really was a HS football player: All-Ohio WR as a sophomore. In his final season of football, James led his team into the state semifinals as a junior.

I also cringed at the Caroll comparisons of Bryant to Mike Williams and Dwayne Jarrett, two of the most notable USC players to flop in the NFL.

I think Kobe would be an excellent NFL player.

you don’t go from professional sports to college sports. pathetic and desperate idea.

  • darkdiggler says:

desparate? pathetic? it was a random twitter, with no real emphasis on actually trying to get kobe at usc. dramatic and ridiculous comment

  • ian says:

he has good leadership and has shown that on the basketball court i would like to see him on the football field
