Of all the USC players working out for NFL scouts today, the one with the most to gain is linebacker Rey Maualuga.
Maualuga — who took in practice Tuesday with a Cleveland Browns ski cap atop his head and a group of inner-city youths following his every step — believes he has something to prove to the scouting community after pulling up at the combine because of a hamstring injury.
Maualuga vowed to approach USC’s pro day “with a chip on my shoulder.” He said his hamstring isn’t 100 percent healed but is “well enough” for him to perform at a high level.
Pro day begins about 11:45 a.m. at the campus track stadium and is closed to the public — but we’ll have updates here during and after the workouts.
Others who will be heavily scrutinized include safety Kevin Ellison, cornerback Cary Harris and, of course, quarterback Mark Sanchez.
