CARSON - Joe Paterno walked across the David Beckham Academy field at the Home Depot Center Tuesday, his khaki’s rolled up to his ankles, doing his best to steer the conversation away from himself.
Paterno said he still isn’t sure whether he will be on the sideline when Big Ten champion Penn State meets USC in the Rose Bowl New Year’s Day.
Paterno, who turned 82 Sunday, spent the Nittany Lions’ season coaching from the press box after injuring a hip while trying to demonstrate an on-side kick during pre-season drills. Paterno underwent hip replacement surgery the day after the Nittany Lions’ season-ending victory against Michigan State.
“Good,” Paterno responded when asked how he was feeling. “You know, I’m not 100 per cent but I’m very close. That jet lag got me the first day (in California). I did better yesterday. So, I’m OK. I’m trying.”
With all due respect, who cares? I really think it would hurt PSU players to see their coach stack up against a Pete Carroll, who is throwing the ball around prior to the game and sprints on and off the field with his team.
That’s just my opinion watching Charlie W. performing against Pete Carroll on the football field (as coaches go).
doug
you take football far too seriously
Once again USC’s famous Zebra squad put the game out of reach, this time in the first half!
