From a USC news release:
Angels play-by-play announcer Steve Physioc and USC football radio play-by-play announcer Pete Arbogast will fill in temporarily for USC men’s basketball radio play-by-play announcer Rory Markas on KSPN/710 while Markas recovers from Nov. 3 surgery to remove a blood clot from the side of his head.
Physioc, who alternates with Markas in the Angels’ television and radio booths, will be available for most games, beginning with this Saturday’s season opener against UC Irvine at 12:30 p.m at Galen Center. Arbogast, who also doubles as the radio play-by-play voice for women’s basketball on usctrojans.com, will handle games when Physioc is unavailable. Jim Hefner will continue in his role as the longtime radio analyst.
“We hold Rory’s broadcasting work in high regard, and we made it clear to him that he will continue to be our basketball play-by-play announcer when he is ready to return,” USC athletic director Mike Garrett said. “We also let him know that the entire Trojan Family wishes him a healthy, speedy recovery.
“We realize he is anxious to get back into his announcer’s chair, but he has gone through quite a medical ordeal, and his recovery period will be dictated by his doctors’ guidance. In the interim, we are very appreciative that such broadcast veterans as Steve and Pete agreed to pinch-hit for him until he is ready to return.”
Markas was released from the hospital on Nov. 10 and his prognosis for a successful recovery is excellent.
