USC football: Three reasons why USC will beat Arizona State

October 9th, 2008, 7:30 am · 3 Comments · posted by Adam Maya, staff writer since 2006

Why will USC beat Arizona State? Look no further than Sean Penn, Bill Murray and Omar Epps.

1. Remember when a young Omar Epps starred in “The Program” … and then “Major League II” and “Higher Learning” and “The Wood” and “Love & Basketball,” et al.,  breaking the record for a lead actor in movies that could have been good?

Arizona State was picked to finish second in the conference entering this season. And then it lost to UNLV. The Sun Devils also flaunt a Pac-10 Championship ring on its media guide, which it co-holds with USC after the Trojans trounced the Sun Devils on Thanksgiving last year. The season is barely a month old and there has not been a more disappointing team in the conference than Arizona State.

2. Remember how Spicoli showed up late to the first day of school, had a pizza delivered to class and wrecked the car of Forest Whitaker’s character in “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”?

Simply put, USC’s defense is disruptive. It leads the nation in tackles for loss, is fourth in total yards, tied for ninth in sacks and is 10th in scoring defense.

3. Remember “Groundhog Day”?

ASU coach Dennis Erickson is 1-5 in his career against USC and Arizona State has not beaten the Trojans since 1999. Coach Pete Carroll is 7-0 against Arizona State, with five of those victories coming by at least 20 points. In 2003, Arizona State led in the third quarter before quarterback Matt Leinart rallied back from injury and guided the Trojans on a 27-0 run to close the game. In 2005, the Sun Devils led 21-3 at halftime yet lost, 38-28.

Please pardon my ignorance! I am failing to see the correlation with the actors afore mentioned. To help me understand you where did that trio go to college?
    Thanks

    Reports say:
1)Sean Penn dropped out of Santa Monica City College.
2)Bill Murray dropped out of Regis College in Denver.
3)Omar Epps attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and the New York High School for the Performing Arts and did not attend college.

    I hope that helps.

Adam. You’re wrong on a few things….The Wood, Higher Learning, and Love & Basketball were all good movies. It just doesn’t help that a racist Hollywood didn’t give them much attention because the ethnicity of many of the other stars as well as Omar Epps made them consider the movies as “Black cinema”, which we all know doesn’t get much of any consideration in awards circles (sometimes for good reason, I won’t lie). otherwise, the trojans are just going to roll over ASU.
