USC quarterback Mark Sanchez has earned his third Pac-10 Player of the Week award of the season — something Matt Leinart never did and few Trojans ever have done.
Sanchez became just the sixth USC player to be honored three times in the same season since 1984, which is as far as those records go back.
Here are the others:
- 2005: TB Reggie Bush
- 2002: QB Carson Palmer
- 1998: CB Antuan Simmons
- 1992: WR Curtis Conway
- 1988: QB Rodney Peete
Sanchez is the only one to be honored three times in the first six weeks of the season. No USC player has won four Player of the Week awards in the same year.
