Versatile Parsons finally gets his turn

October 2nd, 2008, 8:52 pm · Post a Comment · posted by Adam Maya, staff writer since 2006

Junior offensive guard Alex Parsons (Woodbridge High) has played in every game since he since he arrived at USC in 2006. But he has yet to start.

That will change Saturday as he is set to replace Zack Heberer, who is out with a turf toe injury.

Parsons has been the Trojans’ first lineman off the bench this season, rotating between both guard spots and center.

“It’s nice to focus on one position, get my mind set and get everything 100 percent down,” he said about practice this week.

The onetime defensive tackle said he could play any of the offensive line positions, if called upon.

“Our footwork is all the same,” he said. “Everyone does the same drills, from center to tackle. If we had to we could put anyone in there and they should be able to do it.”

As for making his first start, he said he is trying not to think about it and plans to listen to country music

“It settles me down, keeps me calm,” he said. “I’ve done it since high school.”
