Injured USC quarterback Mark Sanchez took another step forward in his recovery from a dislocated left kneecap by throwing passes along the sideline during practice this afternoon.

Sanchez took drops at about half-speed and tapped his injured leg (also his lead leg) from side to side between throws.

He appeared to be wearing a less cumbersome black wrap around his knee.

Sanchez suffered the injury on Friday, Aug. 8. Coach Pete Carroll declared him day to day as of Monday. USC opens its season Aug. 30 at Virginia.
